A fun and creative twist on traditional Spam musubi, perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water (for cooking rice)
  • 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 can (12 oz) SpamĀ®, sliced
  • Nori sheets (seaweed)
  • Soy sauce (for serving)
  • Optional decorations: slice of cheese or veggies for gravestones, and edible eyes for decoration

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine the rice and water. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Fry the Spam slices until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and let drain on paper towels.
  4. Lay down a nori sheet on a clean surface or bamboo sushi mat. Using wet hands, spread an even layer of sushi rice onto the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.
  5. Place a crispy Spam slice in the center and press down gently. Add optional toppings around the Spam if desired.
  6. Roll the nori over the rice and Spam from the bottom. Tuck it tightly and seal the roll.
  7. Slice the roll into bite-sized pieces, and trim each piece into a coffin shape if desired. Garnish as needed.

Notes

Use short grain rice for better texture. Wet hands when handling sticky rice to prevent sticking.
