A fun and spooky chocolate cake decorated with chocolate skulls, perfect for Halloween and festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 chocolate cake (use your favorite recipe or a store-bought mix)
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate (for skulls)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Candy decorations or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bake the cake: Prepare a chocolate cake according to your preferred recipe. Allow it to cool completely before frosting.
  2. Melt the chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler, melt the dark chocolate until smooth. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. Mold the skulls: Pour the melted chocolate into skull-shaped molds. Tap gently to remove air bubbles, then place in the refrigerator until the chocolate sets, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Make the whipped frosting: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until well combined.
  5. Add vanilla: Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated into the frosting.
  6. Frost the cake: Once the chocolate cake has cooled, spread the whipped chocolate cream evenly over the top and sides.
  7. Decorate with skulls: Carefully remove the chocolate skulls from the molds and place them on top of the frosted cake.
  8. Add finishing touches: If desired, sprinkle any additional candy decorations or sprinkles atop the skulls for an extra festive touch.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Slice the cake and serve it at your Halloween gathering!

Notes

Ensure the cake is completely cooled before frosting to prevent the whipped cream from melting. Store any extra chocolate skulls in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days.
