A simple yet rewarding homemade pizza sauce made with fresh ingredients that elevates your pizza night experience.

Ingredients

  • Fresh Tomatoes (2 lbs)
  • Olive Oil (2 tbsp)
  • Garlic (4 cloves)
  • Onion (1 small, diced)
  • Dried Oregano (1 tsp)
  • Dried Basil (1 tsp)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Sugar (1 tsp)
  • Red Pepper Flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and roughly chop the fresh tomatoes, removing any tough stems.
  2. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes to the saucepan. Stir well to combine, cooking for about 10 minutes, until the tomatoes soften and break down.
  4. Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the sauce simmer for an additional 5 minutes to meld the flavors together.
  5. If you prefer a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to puree the sauce to your desired consistency. You can also let it cool and blend it in a standard blender.
  6. Allow the sauce to cool completely before using or transferring to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

Use high-quality tomatoes for the best flavor. Adjust seasonings to your taste. The sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
